A fight broke out between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sunday morning as heavy shooting was heard along Oba Adesida road, a major road in Akure, Ondo State, even as tension grips residents six days to the Ondo Governorship election.

The clash between the two opposite political groups is said to be a reprisal attack over an APC member that was killed in Oba Nla area of Akure, Saturday night.

Many of the supporters were said to have inflicted injuries on themselves even as several vehicles were damaged as a result of the fight.Ondo APC PDP

This caused serious traffic gridlock on Adesida road as motorists stopped plying the road to avoid damages on their vehicles.

According to reports, the fight spread to nearby streets in Arakale area and others.

However, men of the Police force have stormed the area to calm the atmosphere.

The clash between the rival groups is coming on the heels of security operatives deployed to different areas of the state ahead of the October 10 election.

On Friday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu has deployed DIG Adeleye Oyebade, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Research and Planning to oversee the general security process for the election.

Other senior officers deployed to assist the DIG include AIG Karma Hosea Hassan, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Federal Operations (FEDOPS) Department of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja and 11 Commissioners of Police.

The team had earlier warned supporters of political parties and hoodlums to avoid violence as they were on ground to arrest and deal with culprits caught fomenting political violence in the state.
