Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has congratulated veteran musician, John Odafe Asiemo, popularly hailed as Daddy-Showkey, on the occasion of his golden age celebrations.

Omo-Agege hailed Daddy-Showkey for leaving an indelible mark on the Nigerian music industry.

In a congratulatory message personally signed by him, Senator Omo-Agege said the Delta-born artiste whose works remain evergreen has been a source of inspiration to aspiring music artistes and the entire Nigerian youth in general.

The federal lawmaker expressed optimism that many young Nigerians would be further inspired with the story of how the ‘Galala King’ beat many odds in his life’s journey when he started his musical career in Ajegunle, Lagos State.

“Over the years, you have used your music to educate and entertain Nigerians and kindled joy in the hearts of millions of people.

“As the first artiste to start the Nigerian Dancehall style, your use of Pidgin English in your music invented a dance style that changed the Nigerian Dancehall scene.

“You are not only a true ambassador of Isokoland and Delta State in particular but Nigeria as a whole. You are an embodiment of the can-do spirit of the average Nigerian,” he stated.

Omo-Agege prayed that God will grant the veteran musician many more years in good health.
