The Deputy Senate President and the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Delta State, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for an urgent intervention for flood victims in the state.

The federal lawmaker while commiserating with the families of those who lost their loved to the flooding that has ravage the state called on Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide urgent humanitarian assistance that will mitigate the impact of the natural disaster and as well help flood victims in Delta state and other parts of the country.

The New Diplomat reports that several states in Nigeria, particularly Kogi, Benue, Anambra, Niger, Nasarawa have been hit by the flood, killing scores of people.

Many houses have been submerged, with a large chunk of dry land cut off while over 80 lives lost and 600,000 persons displaced according to a statistics released by NEMA.

Reacting to the negative trend, Omo-Agege in a statement issued by his Director of Communications and Media Strategy, Ima Niboro, urged the relevant agencies to provide timely early warning for flood-proned areas with a view to fore-stalling loss of lives and property in such places.

According to him, the devastation caused by the floods to food crops, farmlands, houses and property, resulting in some cases to loss of lives, was worrisome to all.

He also urged the hundreds of victims whose houses, vehicles were submerged by the devastating floods, to persevere in these trying times, and prayed God to give them fortitude.
