President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate change of Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

The shake-up, announced via a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, sees the removal of the former CDS, General Christopher Musa, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Alongside General Oluyede, the President approved the following appointments of Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff.

Notably, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).

In the statement, Tinubu explained that the development is in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture.

“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.

“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement said in part.
