The former Director-General, Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign organization, Doyin Okupe, has narrated his ordeal in the hands of the Department of State Services (DSS) who whisked away from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMA2.

The former DG LP presidential campaign said he was on his way to the UK for medical check up when the DSS swoop on him at the International Airport, Lagos.

Doyin on his twitter handle, on Thursday, said, he was on his way to the United Kingdom, (UK) for medicals when DSS operatives stormed the airport in the morning and whisked him away.

In his words, “I was arrested and detained at the MM international airport, Lagos this morning 12th Jan on my way to the UK for medicals, years of my passport being with held by the FHC Abuja.

“I have just left the EFCC office where Senior officers in Lagos, and Abuja apologised to me for the error. OCCUPATIONAL Hazard abi?”

It would be recalled that Okupe, a former presidential media aide, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, dated 20th, December, 2022.

Okupe’s resignation came hours after Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, found him guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA). Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, in a judgment, had found Okupe guilty in 26 out of the 59 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge, however, gave an option of N500,000 in each of the counts, amounting to N13 million, which the court ruled must be paid before 4:30pm, Monday.

However, Okupe met the deadline for the payment of the N13 million fine to avoid the 2-year jail term he bagged over the N200 million money laundering offence.
