Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpehbolo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Defence Minister, Major General Godwin Osagie Abbe(rtd).

Abbe, who passed away on Saturday night in Abuja after a prolonged illness, was remembered for his distinguished military career and significant contributions to national development.

Confirming his death, to journalists, the Edo state governor stated that the State has lost a great and illustrious son.

Okpebholo extended his condolences to the late Major-General’s family and the entire people of Edo State, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.

“General Godwin Osagie Abbe was a shining star whose light has been extinguished, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us,” the governor’s statement read.

“We celebrate his life, his service, and his contributions to our great nation.”

Okpehbolo further emphasised, “As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, we reflect on the traditional and philosophical principles that guided his life and career.

“May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to illuminate the path to greatness for the people of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.”
