The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed a Ganiu Audu, a former running mate to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu , the All Progressives Congress(APC)) gubernatorial candidate in Edo state in 2020, as his Chief of Staff.
Audu is also a former member of the Edo state House of Assembly.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Okpebholo’s spokesman, Fred Itua, which noted that the appointment takes effect immediately.
“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the good people of Edo State, that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo state, has approved the appointment of Hon. Gani Audu as his chief of staff. The appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement reads.
Audu ran on a joint ticket as deputy governor to Osagie Andrew Ize-Iyamu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020.
He was elected member of the Edo house of assembly representing Etsako west constituency 1 in 2015. He served as chair of Etsako west LGA from 2004 to 2010.
Audu’s is the latest in the string of appointments that has been made by Okpebholo since he took the reins of power from Godwin Obaseki on November 12.
Prior to this he had appointed Musa Ikhilor, a lawyer, as the Secretary to the State Government and Samson Osagie also a lawyer, as the Attorney-General of the State and Commissioner for Justice.nominated
The governor also nominated Cyril, son of Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo state, now a serving senator, as the commissioner of health.
