Aggrieved community members in Delta State, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil Producing Communities (NDIOPC), are threatening to shutdown Chevron Nigeria Limited facilities in Olero, Dibi and Abiteye Fields in Delta State, over unfulfilled promises by the oil company and Delta State Government.

This was contained in separate letters by the NDIOPC and addressed to the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chevron Nigeria Limited and the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday.

According to the letters, the host communities are fed up with the inaction of the management of the oil company and state government over the “refusal to convert the VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 graduates, to staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited, 15 years after their employment, despite interventions by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III”.

The group noted that the VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 graduates went through the recruitment process after completing their one-year Ogere training programme and not a single member of the graduates has been converted to full staff of the company.
