The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, on Monday, submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, following the conclusion of its assignment.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen.

According to the statement, following the submission of the report, the SGF will in turn present it to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The official presentation will take place upon the return of the leadership of the Organised Labour, along with the representatives of the Government and Organised Private Sector, who are currently attending the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The SGF also appreciated the Chairman of the Committee, Bukar Goni Aji and the members for their commitment and sacrifices during the negotiations.

It would be recalled that Tinubu on January 30, 2024, inaugurated a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

The Committee was tasked with the responsibility of recommending a new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers in public and private sectors.

Negotiations encountered significant hurdles during the Tripartite Committee meeting as the organized labour representatives angrily walked out of various meetings on at least two occasions.

It would be recalled that the government had made proposals of N48,000, N54,000, and N57,000, with the latest being N62,000 during the negotiations.

Organized labour has also been consistence in its demand for a new minimum wage above N100,000. The unions had initially demanded N615,000, bringing it down later to N497,000 with its latest proposal pegged at N250,000.
