• Baba-Ahmed: “ADC is Deceiving us, They Won’t Give Obi Ticket”

• ADC to Baba-Ahmed: “Your Claims are Personal, Untrue”

By Abiola Olawale

In an unfolding political drama which has attracted the reaction of many, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice presidential running mate to Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi, has triggered a fierce war of words with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over potential alliances for the 2027 presidential election.

The New Diplomat reports that the tension between Baba-Ahmed and the ADC arose from ongoing discussions about an opposition coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, has been at the center of calls for a united front against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Meanwhile, Baba-Ahmed while speaking with Channels TV, claimed that the opposition coalition under the ADC is allegedly deceiving Obi and the “Obidient” movement.

According to him, ADC’s presidential ticket arrangement is allegedly skewed against Obi.

He also accused the ADC of alleged opportunism. “They are deceiving us,” He said, slamming the coalition, which his 2023 running mate, Peter Obi, happens to be a part of.

Baba-Ahmed also maintained that he wanted the former Anambra governor to remain in the Labour Party and contest under its platform.

He said, “I’m in the Labour Party. I’m a Peter Obi man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest the 2027 election.”

However, the ADC has dismissed the remarks by Baba-Ahmed, describing his criticism of the opposition coalition as “personal opinions” that do not reflect the ADC’s position.

This was contained in a statement signed by Jackie Wayas, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, with the party affirming its commitment to uniting opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement reads in part: “Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed’s assertions are his personal opinions and do not reflect the position of the ADC or its coalition partners.

“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a respected voice who has always stood for integrity and justice. Since the coalition is a collective effort that requires the strength and skills of all patriots, we sincerely hope he comes on board to contribute to this shared vision for a better Nigeria.

“Nigerians deserve clarity and unity in the pursuit of a better future. Let us rally behind the ADC and rescue Nigeria.”
