Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the conferment of honorary citizenship of the State of Georgia, United States, as a source of renewed inspiration in his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria.

Obi received the honour on Thursday in Washington, DC, during events marking Black Congressional Week. He said the recognition, which he considered the highlight of his engagements, underscored the value of service and reinforced his belief that a better Nigeria is possible.

“For me, the day’s events were about learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible,” Obi said while reflecting on the honour.

Before the conferment, Obi participated in a reception of the Congressional Black Caucus hosted by U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock at the Senate Kennedy Caucus Room. He also engaged with Ms. Kim Clark, Chief Executive of Georgia Power, and addressed the One Voice Africa forum, where he urged the African diaspora to support good governance on the continent.

Obi emphasised that Africa’s vast potential could only be unlocked through visionary and responsible leadership, noting that his conversations during the day deepened his conviction to continue advocating for democratic growth and development.
