The hopes of Senator Francis Alimikhena of Edo North; his counterpart from Edo Central, Senator Clifford Ordia; Ms. Omosede Igbinedion, daughter of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion; and a host of other members of Governor Godwin Obaseki faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State to fly the party’s flag in next year’s election may have been dashed as the party has given the greenlight to loyalists of Chief Dan Orbih, the South South zonal national vice chairman of the party to partake in the polls.
Due to the inability of the feuding factions of the main opposition party in the state to reconcile their differences, the different camps had organized parallel primaries for the State and National Assembly aspirants, resulting in the selection of two candidates for each seat through out the state.
The national headquarters of the main opposition Tuesday confirmed the authenticity of the candidacy of the trio of Architect Mike Onolememen, Mr. Paschal Ugbome, and Dr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Edo Central, Edo North, and Edo South senatorial districts respectively as their names were forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The National Working Committee had confirmed them as they received the completed forms submitted by candidates of the Edo state chapter of the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Edo State PDP, accompanied the candidates to the headquarters of the party in Abuja.
Ahead of the deadline by the electoral body, the names of the winning candidates have since been uploaded on the INEC`s portal.
