  • Says The Fight Is Over

By Gbenga Abulude (Politics and General Desk)

The re-elected governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki has extended a hand of fellowship to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki, after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with his Deputy, Hon. Phillip Shaibu, said the fight was over and both Ize-Iyamu and Oshiomhole should join him in building the state.

He said, “on a special note, I want to use this occasion to call on the former chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole, that, the fight is over. Come and join me in building the house, where you part of laying the foundation.”

Obaseki added, “We have no malice. The only thing we disagree on is the approach in moving Edo forward.”

The governor, beckoned on Ize-Iyamu to join him in the pursuit of providing good governance and quality service to the people of Edo.

He said, “I want to put it on record that the election of September 19, 2020 has been adjudged as one of the best conducted election in terms of it being free and fair.

“Our citizens have decided that for now, they trust us more with the affair of leadership. It does not mean that they did not have a role to play. It does not mean that they are not part of a family.

“So I am using this opportunity to extend a hand of fellowship to my brother, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his other colleagues in the APC to join us and work with us so that we can move Edo State forward.”

Recall that Obaseki who contested under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to the surprise of many had a landslide victory at the polls held on Saturday, September 19.

He defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, scoring 307, 955 votes to Ize-Iyamu’s 223, 619 votes.

Obaseki had a bitter feud with his predecessor, Oshiomhole and this snowballed into the events that happened at the Edo State House of Assembly and his inability to contest for the governorship election on the platform of the APC.

During the campaign tours, Oshiomhole had lampooned Obaseki and accused him of betrayal and not deserving of governing Edo State again. Obaseki had also thrown mud at his erstwhile political godfather.
