Two term former President and one time military Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has refuted speculations regarding his rumored Igbo paternal lineage, dismissing claims that his father is of Igbo heritage.
The former president declared that the claims are laughable, adding that his father is an Ogun indigene.
Obasanjo made this known while receiving the leadership of Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association, an umbrella body of major markets in Lagos State at the boardroom of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He said: “It just makes me laugh.” The former president also added that he did not believe anybody in Nigeria should be driven away from any part of the country, declaring that “we own this country together.”
He added: “Having ensured that the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas all came together to fight the war of unity in Nigeria, and not to fight Igbos to go, but to come. So if anybody says to me that somebody should leave any place, he will be the one to leave.”
It would be recalled that a trending social media handle which was later deleted was spreading the provocative threats that Ibo speaking people from Igboland should leave Lagos. This has generated anger amongst Nigerians who have descended on the promoter with serious condemnation.
