Former two term Nigerian President and one-time military Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has announced his decision to host a memorial service for the late former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The service is set to take place at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library at 9:00 AM.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media to Obasanjo, Kehinde Akinyemi.
The President of the Baptist Convention, Rev Israel Akanji, is expected to present a special sermon.
Obasanjo, who was a close ally of Carter until the later’s demise, is also expected to deliver a tribute titled “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan”.
This memorial service reflects the close relationship between Obasanjo and Carter, who was the 39th President of the United States and died at the age of 100 on December 29, 2024.
He was the longest-living U.S. president and the first to reach 100 years of age.
