As the nation’s economic mainstay, oil and gas sector suffers considerable hitches,former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that food crisis in Nigeria would be inevitable if the growing population and essential economic indicators are ignored.

The former President who made this observation while hosting the Apex socio-cultural group in Tivland of Benue in his Abeokuta Presidential library in Ogun State, declared that all available economic indices have shown that the centre of the oil and gas sector can longer hold.

Against this backdrop, he stated that all hands must be on deck in order to rescue Nigeria and her people from starvation and imminent collapse. His words, “it has become apparent that the oil and gas sector can no longer sustained the growing population of Nigeria.”. Towards this end, Obasanjo declares in unequivocal terms, “that only farming and Agriculture business would tackle the nation’s growing population.

As a panacea to the lingering economic woes, Obasanjo declares that “if Nigeria is ready to get it right, the 2023 election should be the turning point. We should not go for emotion that will destroy us”.

Earlier, the President General of the group, a retired police Commissioner, Lorbee Ihagh who the former President for the hospitality shown them, disclosed that the group came to consult with Obasanjo as a nationalist and elder statesman on the state of the nation.
