As an ongoing acute shortage of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol persists, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited(NNPCL) has attributed it to “heavy rain”

The company, in a statement issued on Tuesday, explained that the shortage of petrol was due to weather-induced logistical challenges that have hampered restocking at the pump.

The NNPCL clarified that the current situation was not caused by a lack of supply but due to weather that affected the logistics.

The company also claimed that a recent thunderstorm disrupted the ship-to-ship transfer of PMS.

The statement reads in part: “The adverse weather condition has also affected berthing at jetties, truck load-outs and transportation of products to filling station disrupting in station supply logistics.

“Due to the flammability of petroleum products and in compliance with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency regulations, it was impossible to load petrol during rainstorms and lightning.”
