The Senator representing Enugu East, Chimaroke Nnamani, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes barely 24 hours after he lost his senatorial bid.

Nnamani, a former Senate President, was defeated by the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Kelvin Chukwu.

Chukwu, who is newbie in Enugu politics, won the seat after having polled 69,136 votes to defeat Nnamani, who scored 48,701 votes.

Chukwu had latched on to the Labour Party ticket in a rerun primary, following the gruesome murder of his elder brother days to the presidential and National Assembly polls.

Nnamani, in a statement on Monday, said his decision to dump PDP was made after consultations with his associates.

He also added that the irreconcilable differences with the national leadership of the party played a vital role in his decision making.

It would be recalled that the former Enugu State governor, weeks before the Presidential election had declared his support for President-elect and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu. Subsequently, he was expelled by the leadership of the PDP for alleged anti-party activities.
