The formal ceremony of the first lady, Aisha Buhari handing over the reigns of her office to the wife of the President-elect, Oluremi Tinubu has triggered largely angry reactions in the social media.
Aside from former first lady, Mariam Babangida, Aisha Buhari has been the next to bring glamour to the office of the first lady with her retinue of officers.
Investigations by The New Diplomat on different social media platforms, showed that Nigerians are dissatisfied with the creation of the office of the first lady.
Excerpts:
Ngozi @delta:
Please this Buhari’s government should stop wasting Nigeria’s scarce resource. Which one is first lady handover ceremony again? There’s nothing we won’t see and hear in President Buhari’s regime.
Sekira @abuja:
For crying out loud, the office of the first lady in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. But it was the creation of former first lady, late Mrs Mariam Babangida who glamourised the office to enviable height.
Nkechi @AdaWarri:
First lady handing over ceremony in this Nigeria. Another chop chop programme. Keyamo, where are you Ooooh?
Bisiola @lagos Dey:
Wonders shall never end! Nigeria is gradually drifting into a monarchy. Husband (President) hands over, wife (first lady) hands over too . Nigeria government is now a family affair.
Oghale @Ughelli voice:
Only God knows how much money has been wasted on the office of the first lady. Let Aisha Buhari tell NIgerians how many investments her office attracted to Nigeria for the eight years she occupied the seat. So, what’s she handing over to the incoming first lady, Oluremi Tinubu?
Abdulmumin @kaduna:
Let’s be firm about this, we, Nigerians must agree that the office of the first lady must be scrapped. Surprisingly, wives of local government Chairmen, now parade themselves as first ladies. What a comic nation
Aminat @Taraba;
Scrapping the office of the first lady would help to reduce cost in government. Apart from late Mrs Mariam Babangida’s Better Life For Rural Women, no other first lady have come up with a good programme even though we know it was all scam.
