Nigerian-born Vincent Nwosu has reportedly bypassed Master’s programme to gain admission to the University of Delaware, USA for a PhD programme.

Nwosu who disclosed this on his verified twitter handle @vincent Nwosu said he got a fully funded PhD offer from the American varsity without TOFEL, GRE and application fee.

He (Nwosu) appreciated Prof MattGoldrick, Dr. Adeola Oyebamiji and others who had made it a reality for him to the PhD offer from the University of Delaware.

The young Nigerian stated that his interest in graduate studies grew from watching Dr. Oyebamiji on Instagram during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Nwosu also thanked his department at the U.S varsity for raising the initial financial benefits offered to him to enable him travel with his wife-to-be.

His statement reads: “I wish to thank all the scholars on Twitter for your selfless sacrifices help and desire to see others get funded offer.

“Not just in North America but in other parts of Europe and Asia. My interest in grad studies grew and developed from watching @DrOlubamiji on IG live during the lockdown. From her live sessions, I discovered

“It has been a huge blessing, doc. Thank you to all the other scholars who post daily scholarship info and tips on submitting a competitive application. May the universe continue to align for you all.

“I may not have come into any of your DMs but know that I digest everything you post because I strongly believe in it. Thank you

“And to other prospective grad students, Do It Yourself is still the best. Follow and read these scholars religiously and make Google your best friend. Truly, now I know I say scholarship sweet die but it takes hard work and dedication. All the best in the next application cycle.

“In fact, my department also had to add money to the initial offer letter they sent so that I can bring my babe over without providing any bank statement for our I-20. I’m getting married next month and we going together.

“Special thanks also to Prof @MattGoldrick who did a thorough editing of my SOP. He did the first major review of my SOP and through his insights, I upgraded my SOP to meet the standard of graduate programs in my field in the US. Throughout the whole process of this review, which included zoom meetings and several emails, he remained patient with me and answered my unending questions. Thank you very much, Matt. I’m sure we’ll get to work together in some form in time to come.

It would be recalled that Chijioke Ekechi, a Nigerian youth and Covenant University Bachelors of Science (B.Sc) holder, had in January bagged a doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) scholarship in the United States of America without having a master’s degree.

He said the scholarship gave him an admission into Tennessee Technological University in the US for a study in ‘Automation and Artificial Intelligence’.

His statement reads, “If you don’t have your master’s degree, you would be allowed to do it so you can have your Masters Degree. Then, when you are done, you transfer your credits in master’s to a PhD. So, rather than starting your Ph.D afresh, you start from third year of your Ph.D.

“So, instead of spending the usual six to seven years, you just spend 3-4 years in bagging a PhD. It was grace because I know a lot of people who were more qualified than I was and still did not get an offer as good as this.”
