Early reports say that the fire began in the Federal Ministry of Education before spreading to nearby locations.

The fire fighters in the area responded once they received notification that large plooms of black smoke were bellowing from the complex.

There have also been reports that some staff and visitors may have been trapped inside the complex, though no official government statement has been made.
