Soldiers seen in a viral video purportedly threatening to assault women in Warri, Delta State have been arrested at 9 Brigade Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos, the Nigerian Army disclosed.
The soldiers in the video while using an uncivilized language had threatened to embark on a raping spree of women in Warri. They also promised to leave their victims with HIV infection over the killing of one of their colleagues.
Speaking on the development, Army spokesperson, Colonel Sagir Musa said the soldiers were arrested on Friday after the video in which they made the threats went viral on social media.
He added that further investigation on the video and the soldiers is ongoing.
“The general public should be assured that the investigations will be swift and fair in accordance with applicable military laws. The outcome of the investigations will determine the most appropriate disciplinary measures that can be taken in the circumstances.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it would not tolerate any form of irresponsibility and indiscipline on the part of any of its personnel,” the Army spokesperson said.
Recall that, unlike the Nigerian Army , the Delta State government had debunked the purported video clips as ” concocted and fake”, and “a figment of the imagination of a few disgruntled elements bent on pitching the people against the State government”.
According to the State commissioner for Information, Charles  Aniagwu the alleged video clips were arrangements by people who don’t want peace in Delta State as the images  do not depict the true situation in the State.
