01:20 Abuja Results coming from many units in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) indicate that the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in clear lead in the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

Recall The New Diplomat in its pre-election forecast had predicted Atiku to win the FCT in spite of the fact that he might struggle to get the popular vote to defeat President Buhari.

Our correspondent stationed in some of the polling units in the metropolis, reported that PDP’s Atiku Abubakar defeated President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC in the FCT cities.

Results are already trickling in from the ward and local government’s collation centres across the country.

We start here for the post-voting updates Sunday. Regardless of how your candidates are performing right now, try and shake off the election fever, there must be a winner in every contest and life goes on.

Good morning dear Nigerians (winks), it’s election day across Nigeria and The New Diplomat will be navigating you through this election here. We expect to have a long day with you.

Voters from among the 72.7 million who have collected their PVCs are already filing out to cast their ballot in the Presidential, Senatorial and Federal House of Representatives elections.

All eyes are on the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari and his main challenger, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. But it’s a long ballot paper as there are 73 other candidates on the ballot.

Presidential candidates: ANN’s Fela Durotoye, YPP’s Kingsley Moghalu and AAC’s Omoyele Sowore are expected to prove their mettle among young voters.

For the National Assembly elections, a total of 1,904 are vying for 109 Senatorial seats, while 4,680 candidates are competing for the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

Specifically, Nigeria’s NASS is made up of 109 members of the Senate or Red Chamber and 360 members of the House of Representatives or Green Chamber.

Already, President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha had voted in Katsina State. The wife, Aisha, voted before the president at 8.06 a.m., while the president voted at 8.10 a.m. at the Kofar Baru, Sarkin Yara “A” ward in Daura.

There have been early morning concerns in North East — Several explosions rocked Maiduguri and attacks were reported in Geidam, Yobe state in an attempt to stop voters from thronging the polling units by the Boko Haram insurgents.

10:30 am Yola

Presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has finally cast his vote after initial delays.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Atiku voted at Ajiya Polling Unit, Gwadabawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa at 10:08 a.m. He was accompanied by his wife, Titi.
