Nigeria’s Olympic Star, Blessing Okagbare Banned For 10 Years

A Nigerian track and field athlete Blessing Okagbare has been banned for 10 years for doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday.

Recall the 33-year-old, who is also a sprinter, was expelled from the Tokyo Olympics last year before the women’s 100m semi-finals after testing positive for human growth hormone at an out-of-competition test in Slovakia on July 19.

A statement released by AIU on the 18th of February revealed that she has been banned for multiple misconducts for 10 years.

“The Disciplinary Tribunal has banned Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare for a total of 10 years,” read an AIU statement.

The 33-year-old landed 10 years after she denied all charges, that was given.

This “egregious conduct” led to an increase in the normal four-year sanction as she was eventually expelled for 10 years.
