The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday announced 23 new deaths arising from the Covid-19 disease. It’s the highest daily fatality recorded in the country since the pandemic struck.

It also marked a sharp rise in the number of deaths recorded, Wednesday, when the country added nine deaths to its grim tally.

This comes as 1479 new infections were also recorded nationwide, Thursday.

The figures bring the country’s total cases to 105,478, while its discharged cases are 83, 830, its death toll has risen to 1405.

According to NCDC data, 10 of the deaths occurred in Oyo, 6 in Lagos, two each in Sokoto and Rivers, one each in Ogun, Plateau and Edo.

“The 1479 new cases are reported from 25 states- Lagos (697), FCT (201), Nasarawa (80), Plateau (74), Rivers (62), Edo (46), Adamawa (43), Osun (39), Akwa Ibom (35), Delta (31), Anambra (27), Oyo (24), Kano (21), Abia (19), Enugu (19), Ogun (18), Sokoto (12), Bauchi (7), Taraba (7), Ekiti (4), Gombe (4), Imo (4), Bayelsa (2), Jigawa (2), and Zamfara (1),” the NCDC said.
