Super Eagles of Nigeria put up a scintillating performance on their return to the centre of excellence — Lagos after many years of no show as they thrashed Lesotho in their Tuesday’s AFCON qualifier match at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The eagles dazzled the Lagos fans as grand style goals from Victor Osimhen, Ogbenekaro Etebo and Paul Onuachu capped a successful campaign for the Nigerian side ahead of the AFCON tournament in Cameroon next year.

The match ended in 3 goals in favour of Nigeria and goalless for the visitors.

The Super Eagles dominated the play from the blast of the whistle till the end of the game inside a stadium that had only about 8,000 of the Lagos masses, no thanks to Covid-19 pandemic.

Osimhen opened scoring after connecting a pass from fellow striker Kelechi Iheanacho. The goal has now taken his tally in the AFCON qualification to five.

In the 51st minute of the match, Etebo latched on to a loose ball, beating the Lesotho goalie in the process for the second goal.

Substitute, Paul Onuachu rapped things up in the 84th minute after he slammed the ball beyond the outstretch hands of the Lesotho keeper. Recall he scored the only goal of the game between Nigeria and Benin Republic, Saturday in Port Novo.

Following the Tuesday’s match, Nigeria ended the qualification campaign for the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon atop the group L with 14 points.

The game between Sierra Leone and Benin in Freetown will determine which team qualify for AFCON as second in the group.
