SIFAX Group has applauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, following Nigeria’s return to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council after a 14-year absence.
In a congratulatory letter signed by the Group Head of Corporate Communications, Olumuyiwa Akande, the Group’s Chairman, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, hailed the return as a landmark achievement that underscores Nigeria’s renewed influence in global maritime governance.
According to Afolabi, Nigeria’s re-entry into the IMO Council goes beyond diplomatic symbolism. “This is not only a victory for the government but a triumph for the entire maritime industry and our nation’s standing in global shipping governance,” he said.
He credited Oyetola’s “visionary leadership, tireless diplomacy and steadfast dedication” for rebuilding international confidence in Nigeria’s maritime administration, safety standards and blue economy agenda. Afolabi noted that the minister’s stewardship has repositioned Nigeria as a credible and influential maritime nation after years on the sidelines.
The SIFAX Chairman added that the development is especially encouraging for private-sector operators, including his organisation, as it reinforces belief in the government’s reform-driven push for growth, competitiveness and sustainability in the marine and blue economy sector.
Afolabi reaffirmed SIFAX Group’s commitment to supporting national progress through strategic investments in the maritime industry and pledged continued collaboration with the ministry as Nigeria seeks greater relevance and influence in international maritime affairs.
