- Set To Petition INEC
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Julius Abure has faulted the ongoing electoral process, alleging that its fraught with unbridled irregularities that cast suspicion on results currently being announced.
The LP Chairman who made this disclosure, said the party has finalised plans to petition the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to formally register it’s protest.
Abure who stated that the party would exercise patience until INEC has concluded the entire electoral process, posited that LP would not hesitate to seek redress in a Court of competent jurisdiction.
The LP Chairman also posited that INEC has alot of questions to answer as there were glaring evidences at the different polling units across Nigeria to subvert the will of the people.
Abure who expressed shock that after repeated assurances by INEC over the water tight evidence that the new technology device, BVAS Machines deployed for the conduct of the election would check mate rigging, vote buying and ballot box snatching, said the Commission refused to upload the results even 24 hours after the exercise.
He queries why INEC Server would be shut down shortly after the conclusion of the election, adding that the ugly development left the Commission Staff to collate results manually.
Abure stated that the sad development questions the credibility of the results declared by INEC, adding that most state Governors went to collation centres to manipulate the results.
The LP Chairman blamed the different lapses reportedly witnessed at the different polling units across Nigeria.
He cited instances where INEC reported late to polling units and technical hitches experienced in some units, thereby disenfranchising great number Nigerians who were ready to exercise their civic obligation.
The LP Chairman also that barefaced intimidation and harassment of voters were experienced in most polling units in some states.
“This is common in Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Abia, Imo and even Edo my state. But we put a resistance to them.”
