Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)’s forward, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, has signed a new contract extending his stay at the club for a further three seasons until 30 June 2025, the club announced on Saturday.
Neymar has now committed his future to PSG despite speculations that he would return to his former club, Barcelona.
The Barcelona Forward, Lionel Messi, in September 2019 had expressed his desire for his former teammate, Neymar, to return to Barcelona.
Speaking at a press conference, Neymar said he was delighted to extend his stay at the club. He also noted that the club’s project to win titles is part of the reasons he decided to pen a new contract.
His words, “I’m very happy, very happy to be extending my contract with Paris until 2025. The truth is that I’m very happy to be staying here for four more years, to be a part of the club’s project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League. So I’m happy to be staying at the club, to be a part of it and to be extending my contract.
“The first factor is happiness. The joy of being part of this squad, of the team, of Paris Saint-Germain, the club. And then, of course, the affinity I have with the club, with the work, with the players that are in the squad today, with a great coach who will certainly help us even more. These things make you believe in the project even more.”
Since Neymar joined the club on August 3, 2017, he has scored 85 goals with 51 assists in his 112 games (all competition) for the club.
He has also won nine trophies so far with PSG: three Ligue 1 titles (2018, 2019 & 2020), two Coupes de France (2018 & 2020), two Coupes de la Ligue (2018, & 2020) and two Trophées des Champions (2018 & 2020).
