The 133 Cardinal electors gathered in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel have elected the new Pope.

The election of the new pope was announced after white smoke emitted from the chimney placed on the roof of the Sistine Chapel.

This means that the cardinals have successfully elected the successor of Pope Francis who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88 years.

The new pope is expected to appear soon at the central window of St. Peter’s Basilica after a brief ceremony with the cardinals.
