What Will They Eat When They Finish The Money? By Azu Ishiekwene

The grave is never satisfied, but other things compete with it for insatiability. I can’t help feeling that some members of Nigeria’s National Assembly will vie for the top place of never enough with the grave, water and fire. Enough is a stranger to them. What happens in these chambers in Abuja, in the name…

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised an alarm, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of sending the Nigeria Police to allegedly harass and prevent its members from holding its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

This comes after the 100th NEC meeting of the PDP faced significant disruption on Monday after police and other security agencies reportedly moved to prevent the gathering at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Reacting, the PDP accused the APC of orchestrating the security deployment, labeling it as a deliberate attempt to undermine the opposition party’s operations.

The PDP, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), condemned the actions, stating, “Federal Police, @PoliceNG other Security Agencies with the Order of All Progressives Congress (APC), @OfficialAPCNg harassing Board of Trustees members and staff of the Party’s National Secretariat in a bid to stop the scheduled meeting.”

This event is unfolding against a backdrop of internal strife within the PDP.

The party has been grappling with divisions, particularly following the controversial postponement of the NEC meeting, which was initially scheduled but later deferred due to “statutory reasons,” according to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum.

Following the development, 11 members of the PDP’s NWC rejected the postponement, accusing Damagum of acting alone in making the decision.
