Kano Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KACCIMA) has revealed that some business owners residing in Kano State lost over N100 billion within five days of the #EndBadGovernance national protest.

This was made known by the former Deputy President of the Kano State Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, KACCIMA, Usman Darma.

Darma said: “70 per cent in the state are into commerce and business, while 25 per cent of neighbouring African countries trade with Kano.

“With the current situation, businesses have been shut down. Kano State is the worst hit. So, aside from looting and vandalism of properties, the state incurred losses of over N100 billion minimum within the five days.’’

The New Diplomat reports that the protest, which started peacefully on Thursday, spiralled into violence. Suspected hoodlums were said to have attempted to loot shops, including a Rufaida yoghurt outlet, but were dispersed by security agents.

Some public and private properties across Kano were equally attacked. Notably, the newly built Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park building was set ablaze, with looters making away with desktop computers, chairs, keyboards, and other appliances from the facility.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State had imposed a 24-hour curfew in response to the deteriorating security situation, aiming to restore order in the state. However, the defiance of the curfew had led to further clashes.
