The National Population Commission (NPC) has began the third phase ofthe Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise in Bayelsa state.
Disclosing this to newsmen,the Federal Commissioner of National Population Commission in Bayelsa state, Mrs. Gloria Izonfou stated
that the third phase of the EAD commenced from 20th February and ends on the 10th of March, 2017 in Nembe local government area of the
state, preparatory to the 2018 population and housing census across the country.
The federal commissioner noted that the significance of the exercise goes beyond the conduct of the 2018 census as the commission plans to
establish and maintain a national frame including locality list and house numbering for future census and survey in line with its mandate.
According to her, a fifty person demarcation team has been recruited and trained for this phase and subsequent phases of the EAD in the
state, adding that Ogbia local government area was demarcated under the phase two while Nembe LGA is under the phase three of the EAD
which is ongoing.
Mrs. Gloria Izonfou said the remaining local government areas will be covered under the subsequent phases before the conduct of the 2018
census. She however solicited for the support and corporation of the stakeholder in the state and local governments, traditional
institutions and community leaders in carrying out this exercise and also sanitize the people on the essence of the project.
