Less than 24 hours the Apex socio cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide clamour for the seat of the Senate President for Igbos in the emerging 10th National Assembly, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi has joined his voice to the call.
The Governor who made the call during his visit to President Mahmoudu Buhari, told journalists at the Villa that it’s only fair and just to preserve the seat of the Senate President for the people of South East extraction.
He said this would guarantee a sense of inclusiveness in the next government, adding that it’s proper at this stage of the incoming APC led federal government for an Igbo Senate President to emerge in the 10th National Assembly.
Umahi who also disclosed that the issue came up in a recent meeting with the President Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said that the President Elect enjoined the gathering to put the matter on hold until the Governorship and state assembly elections are over.
He said that it was the opinion of the President Elect that such intricate matter would distract party members from concentrating on the forthcoming Governorship Election.
Umahi who expressed optimism that the APC party is wasking stronger on each passing day, assured that zoning the Senate President to the South East would consolidate on the unity of the APC.
The Governor said that as a party man, he believes in zoning as it allows equal opportunity for stakeholders.
Against this backdrop, he implored the President Elect to form a government of National Unity that allows for inclusiveness.
He posited that this would allow full participation of all stakeholders in the APC.
