  • Akpabio, Yahaya Bello To Testify

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District of Kogi State at the Senate is reportedly facing another mounting legal challenge as the Federal Government has filed criminal charges against her.

According to a report by Daily Sun newspaper, the charges stem from what the authorities described as controversial statements Natasha made during a live broadcast interview.

The suit filed has reportedly before a Federal Capital Territory High Court on May 16, 2025.

In the charge marked C/297/2025, the government accused the senator of “making imputation knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person”, citing Section 391 of the penal code, CAP 89, laws of the federation, 1990. The offence is punishable under Section 392 of the same law.

It was also gathered that the list of witnesses includes the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The New Diplomat reports that the senator’s troubles began earlier this year when she fought back against a Senate seating reassignment.

Her defiance led to a six-month suspension by the 10th Senate, a decision that drew criticism from many Nigerians who argued she was not given a fair hearing.

Natasha’s subsequent statements at various interviews may have heightened tensions.

Recall that she also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and reiterated claims of an assassination plot involving both Akpabio and Yahaya Bello.

Recall also that the Kogi State Government dismissed these allegations as “malicious falsehoods,” and Akpabio labeled her claims as baseless.
