- Funds Meant for Acquisition of Secretariat Misappropriated
- How Akande Left N5bn in APC’s Accounts for Oyegun
By The New Diplomat Political Intelligence Desk
Fresh crisis is brewing in the hierarchy of the All Progressives Congress(APC) as a group within the Party, Movement for Accountability and Good Governance has allegedly accused the out-going Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun of misappropriating over N5bn left behind by the pioneer Chairman of the Party, Chief Bisi Akande.
Sources confided in The New Diplomat that the funds which were sourced and saved by Chief Akande, a  respected elder statesman and former Civilian governor of Osun State during his tenure as pioneer chairman of ACN which metamorphosed into the APC, was meant for the acquisition of a befitting national secretariat for the party but was allegedly diverted by Oyegun to other unexplained purposes which have not been accounted for by Chief Oyegun himself.
Said an insider: ”There is serious problem with Chief Oyegun right now. There was N5bn left behind by Baba Akande which was  sourced, saved and budgeted by the party for the acquisition of a befitting national secretariat. As we speak, Chief Oyegun never acquired any Secretariat and has not been able to account for the N5bn. Why was such colossal sums diverted? What happened to that huge sums of N5bn? Baba Akande was very prudent and the EXCO at that time left it for a secretariat to be acquired. But it is so sad that nothing was done about secretariat project by Chief Oyegun. That is why the Movement for Accountability and Good  Governance, the fundamental principles on which our great party, the APC is rooted in is calling for a probe into that funds. The auditors must track where that money went. Did it grow wings?”
Investigations by The New Diplomat further revealed this development has further heightened apprehension within the hierarchy of the APC as nobody can say for certain what might be the consequences of this fresh onslaught against Oyegun by the Movement for Accountability and Good Governance. In a statement signed by the Group’s Director of National Operations, Comrade Biodun Kayode and its head of Northern Operations, Comrade Yusuf Dogonyaro, the MAGG, said it is calling on party organs and  the international community especially global anti-graft agencies to intervene by ensuring that the out-going Chairman is compelled to give a proper account and explanation “what happened to the N5bn naira that the pioneer chairman, Chief Bisi Akande left behind in the accounts of the APC which he handed over to Oyegun.”
It would be recalled that Oyegun has come under intense heat and pressure in the last few days as his plots to extend his tenure was unsuccessful. President Muhammadu Buhari had in the last NEC meeting of the APC declared that any move to extend the tenure of the current party EXCO would be illegal and unconstitutional.
