The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is said to be currently interrogating a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIRS),Mr Babatunde Fowler, in a fresh round of investigations over alleged inappropriate  financial matters.

The New Diplomat’s investigations reveal that  Fowler who was invited by the anti-graft agency and honoured the invitation at the Ikoyi, Lagos office of the EFCCon November 2, 2020, returned again to that same office today, Monday.

EFCC sources say Fowler is currently  being grilled by investigators  at the Lagos office of the Commission over a number of  subject matters, including financial issues.

It was not exactly clear if this latest development is a continuation of an earlier inquisition by the EFCC wherein Fowler was quizzed for several hours earlier this month at the Commission’s Ikoyi, Lagos office.

Recall that The New Diplomat’ had reported  that the subject matter upon which Mr Fowler was invited early in November may have been in connection  with alleged issues relating to Alpha Beta, a consulting believed  to have links to a former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, checks had indicated that the anti-graft agency was investigating a petition submitted to it over allegations of tax evasion, diversion of government revenue, and alleged stripping of Lagos state revenue through the said Alpha Beta consulting firm.

Recall also that Fowler  served as Executive Chairman of the Lagos state Revenue Service, the agency responsible Lagos state revenue at the time.

More details shortly…
