WThe Atlas Lions of Morocco last did not only make their citizens and king proud last Tuesday. Their win against Spain sent all African nations and the Arab world into wild frenzy and the memory is still fresh even as they progress to conquer one of the most deadly attacking team Portugal today, with a 1-0 victory.

The North African team fairytale story may upset the apple cart in Africa’s contemporary football if they keep to their King’s advice, “stay the course”. Morocco recently joined Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana as football World Cup quarter finalist.

While Portugal may parade madly fast attacking squad, the Moroccan defense looks the meanest.

Atlas Lions till today in Qatar World Cup 2022 do not have anyone scoring against them. The only goal conceded was own goal by defender, Nayef Aquerd against Canada.

Portugal on their journey to the Qatar quarter finals recorded only one clean sheet in their 2-0 victory against Uruguay.

Today’s match for most football analysts was indeed a hard one to predict again as the dark horse of the tournament, Morocco brought out the their best.

Portugal’s hope to conquer the African team was dashed just like the popular Africa’s aphorism, “joy has a slender body that breaks too soon.”

Luck shines again on the Lions as the whole continent of Africa celebrates with Morocco.
