Tottenham Hotspur were not finding things easy after they lost 4-2 to Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield, making it their second successive defeat in four days as they dropped to fifth position.

Spurs had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last Thursday, reducing their chances of qualifying for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool took the lead early in the 16th minute courtesy of Egypt international Mohamed Salah, who was rightly positioned at the back post. He capitalized on the delivery from Cody Gakpo with a well-placed header, beating Vicario despite the goalkeeper’s effort to intervene.

After taking the lead, Liverpool appeared to be in command, with Luis Diaz nearly setting up Salah with a delightful through ball, only for Emerson Royal to thwart the attempt with a remarkable recovery tackle. Royal then followed it up with a spectacular block to deny Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Meanwhile, Andrew Robertson showcased his attacking prowess, feeding Salah from Alexander-Arnold’s cross. Salah’s shot was parried, but Robertson was quick to pounce on the rebound, scoring his second goal to make it 2-0 in the 45th minute.

Tensions flared between Emerson and Romero just before halftime, and their frustrations likely continued into the second half. Emerson lost possession to Elliott, who delivered a precise cross for Gakpo. Despite Romero’s efforts, Gakpo rose above him to nod in his 15th goal of the season across all competitions to extend Liverpool’s lead.

Shortly after, Alisson Becker made a crucial save from a powerful header by Brennan Johnson. However, Vicario had no chance to stop Harvey Elliott’s remarkable curling shot into the top corner, which found the back of the net around the hour mark to make it 4-0.

In the 72nd minute, Richarlison found the back of the net with a skillful finish from Johnson’s cross, reducing the deficit for his team. Just five minutes later, he unselfishly set up Heung-min Son for another goal to make it 4-2, briefly causing some uncertainty for the opposition.

Despite Richarlison’s continued threats, Alisson denied him another opportunity, and Joe Gomez cleared the danger ahead of Johnson, ultimately securing Liverpool’s first win in three matches.
