• Says South East is for Tinubu
By Abiola Olawale
Minister of Works Dave Umahi on Saturday claimed that the South East region of Nigeria has abandoned the Obidient Movement championed by the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.
This is as Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State declared that the South-East region is in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking at a cultural event, Umahi described the 2023 presidential election outcome as a “mistake” and urged residents to recognize Tinubu’s contributions to the region’s development.
The declaration came during the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
He said: “We are not Obidient people. We have been so marginalized that we are no longer Obidient. No, we are not.
“But it is the man who has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. Let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and they are saying this state belongs to us. There is no Obidient person in Ebonyi State.”
Umahi said in 2027, the South-East – and Ebonyi State in particular – will reciprocate Tinubu’s good deeds by voting for him.
He insisted that the South-East and the state will not be ‘deceived again’ in 2027.
“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for the South-East and Ebonyi State when the time comes.
“We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake but we have come to be wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us,” he added.
