Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday wowed guests at the thanksgiving service of the newly crowned Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The thanksgiving service which held at the Olu of Warri Palace Chapel in Ode Itsekiri, ancestral home of the Itsekiris in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State recorded attendance from top dignitaries across the country.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo generated memes out of event as the eighty-four-year-old grandpa was seen bowing before the 37-year-old monarch, who was on Saturday crowned the 21st Olu of Warri.

Obasanjo, an Egba high chief knelt before the Olu of Warri who was seated on his throne, as an act of paying homage to the new monarch.

Reacting to the viral picture, Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Adeyemi described the former President as the “Baba (father) of Africa” adding that “He (Obasanjo) went to Warri this (Sunday) morning to pay homage to the new king. It is a traditional institution; he (Ogiame Atuwatse III) is not the one sitting down, it is the institution that is on the throne.”

Emiko, on Saturday was officially crowned the 21st Olu of Warri at a regal coronation ceremony in Warri, Saturday. The new Olu is now referred to as the Ogiame Atuwatse III.

Speaking at the thanksgiving, the former president admonished the new Olu of Warri to be humble, saying that he should always seek advise from older ones. He also urged the Ogiame Atuwatse III to remain closer to God and seek his intervention at every decision making process.

In his words, “As yorubas will say that if a young child has dresses as much as an old man he will not have rags as much as an old man. The old rag is experience and experience is wisdom. Make use of millions of people around.

“Please, be very close to God. Whatever situation you find yourself, please be close to God and God will make a way for you, where people think there is no way. I will not be far from you, and if there’s any reason for you summon me, use your majestic power to do so.”
