An angry mob has beaten a suspected motor bike thief, in Boji Boji Owa in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, to death.

The deceased reportedly met his waterloo at Meme Street by Okobi Street junction while struggling to kick start the bike, marked ANAMBRA GDD 620 VF, which he allegedly stole few metres away.

It was gathered that he allegedly stole the bike with registration number, belonging to a man who uses it for commercial purposes (Okada).

The suspected thief’s ordeal began, when some persons in the neighbourhood felt that something was not proper with the manner he was manipulating and struggling with the ignition.

They subsequently accosted him and demanded that he provided the key or the registration of the bike which he failed to do, enraging the mob which descended on him with stones and sticks.

We were informed that his interrogation went worse when the owner of stolen vehicle surfaced with proofs of ownership and explained how his bike was removed from where he parked it.

According to an eye witness account, some members of the local vigilante group rushed to the scene in a determined bid to rescue the suspect but the mob shoved them away and descended heavily on the suspected thief.

The source who would not want his name in print explained that by the time some policemen in the area arrived at the scene of the incident, the mob had dispersed, leaving the suspect in the pool of his own blood.

The unidentified suspect was said to have died from the severe injuries received in the course of the beating, adding that his corpse has since been deposited at the mortuary in the Central Hospital, Agbor.

Several attempts to reach the Delta State Police spokesman Mr. Bright Edafe in Asaba proved futile as his mobile phone number was serially engaged.
