The men of the Nigeria Army have reportedly killed five youths at Bassa village in Ardo-kola local area of Taraba state.

The killed youths whose names are Abdulkadir Bello, Tukur Bello,Philip Yakubu, Habu Yarima and Ya’u Misa, were said to be returning from a wedding ceremony in Garin-Baka around 12 midnight on Thursday, when the incident happened.

Sadly, It was further gathered that the army on patrol allegedly assumed they were kidnappers and opened fire on them killing five instantly.

Narrating the incident, Isah Umar, who survived after escaping, said he and his friends ran into a group of soldiers.

Going further, Umar, a student of Taraba state university, said he  escaped into the bush but his friend Habu Yerima who conveyed him on his motorcycle was hit by a bullet, which eventually killed him.

Two of the victims were students of Taraba state university and  Taraba state college of Agriculture in Jalingo.

Reacting, parents of the victims who besieged the mortuary of Federal Medical centre, Jalingo said that their children were innocent and not criminals.

Bello Aliyu Jen, father of two of the victims, said the army acted deliberately and is demanding immediate investigation.

His words read, “We need justice, the army must be accountable to the murder of our innocent children”

The corpses of the deceased deposited by the Army at Federal Medical centre Jalingo mortuary  are that of Abdulkadir Bello, Tukur Bello, Philip Yakubu, Habu Yarima and Ya’u Misa.
