The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, on Tuesday visited East-West Seed, a purpose-driven company at its stand at SeedConnect, the biggest conference for all seed-industry actors in Nigeria. non-profit agricultural organisation. While there, East-West Seed spoke of the work their non-profit is doing, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation.
It was gathered that the visit of the minister was to discuss affordable, scalable solutions for the country’s food security.
The New Diplomat reports that East-West Seed has been making efforts to help grow agriculture in Nigeria.
Earlier in November, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation established a learning site at Abuja University. The site was graced by the wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Her Excellency Lady Nana Kassim Shettima.
The site highlights efforts to continue empowering over 187,000 farmers annually thus far through sustainable vegetable farming and innovation.
The New Diplomat reports that the East-West Seed was established over 40 years ago. It is a global leader in tropical vegetable seeds dedicated to improving the lives of smallholder farmers and its Foundation has trained more than 325,000 smallholders farmers across East and West Africa. The company’s mission is to provide innovative seeds and services that help improve the livelihood of tropical vegetable farmers and promote sustainable farming and business practices, while the Foundation continues to provide trainings to improve the production and business skills of smallholder farmers, with the aim of enhancing their livelihoods and increasing the supply of safe-to-eat vegetables, while simultaneously catalyzing the development of innovative agricultural inputs.
