Amidst the joy and lavish celebration accompanying the wedding ceremony of one of the world’s greatest footballer, Lionel Messi, there is one aspect which may have overshadowed the 30-year-old Barcelona star’s big day as there are claims in Argentina that tension exists between his close-knit family and the woman he fell in love with at the age of five.

Source close to the Messi family has reportedly revealed that relations between the footballer’s family and fiancée Antonella Roccuzzo have been strained for nearly seven years.

The friend said that while the two families might appear united during tonight’s luxurious celebrations there has been tension in the past.

Messi, one of the world’s greatest footballer, marries his childhood sweetheart today in a lavish Argentinian ceremony – and has left nothing to chance.

More than 250 friends and family – including some of football’s biggest stars – Carles Puyol, Samuel Eto’o, Pique and wife Shakira, Cesc Fabregas have jetted to Argentina, while the bride’s dress arrived from Spain by private jet accompanied by two bodyguards.

At the plush hotel complex where the couple will marry, mobile phones have been banned, staff sworn to secrecy and 450 police officers drafted on duty.
