The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye, has commended the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi for his effort towards empowering his constituents.
Senator Melaye gave the commendation at Ughelli recently, on the occasion of the distribution of empowerment items to over 265 constituents of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency by Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi. The event took place at the Ughelli general field, Ughelli.
It would be recalled that Hon. Awhinawhi made a promise to the people of his federal constituency during the 2015 electioneering campaign that if voted to office, he would empower the youths, the women and men with a view to alleviating poverty from among the people. He made good that promise on Saturday June 24, 2017 when he doled out empowerment items including tricycles, motor bikes, generating sets, sewing machines, etc to over 265 youths and women from his constituency.
Commending the lawmaker for his effort, Senator Melaye who distinguished between people-oriented democracy and ‘greedocracy’, noted that Hon. Awhinawhi was truly a democratic politician whose interest is for the people.
Said he: “I’m particularly impressed with what he (Awhinawhi) has done. Politics is all about the development of people. What he has done is very impressive. Democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people. It is not suppose to be a government of the greedy by the greedy and for the greedy. What he has done today is a very important thing and I hope other politicians will also identify themselves with this type of democratic dividends.
“I congratulate those who are benefiting from today’s empowerment programme and I do hope that they will continue to support him in subsequent elections. I congratulate Hon. Solomon and I urge him to continue to walk on the path of the people. There are three important people in politics, the first is the people, the second is the people and the third is the people. And I’m happy he has realized that.”
In another development, Senator Dino Melaye has said that what is happening in his Senatorial district was not a recall exercise rather it was only an orchestrated programme by the governor of Kogi State.
He said: “There is no recall programme in Kogi State. It was only an orchestrated programme by the governor of Kogi State because I asked him to pay salaries of workers, he must pay pensioners and he must give the people dividends of democracy. And that is the only reason why he is fighting me. He is not fighting me, he is fighting God almighty because what I’m asking for is just and true.”
