Super Eagles Striker Paul Onuachu has reacted after he scored in dead time to give Nigeria a 1-0 win in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic on Saturday, March 27, 2021.

Speaking to newsmen after the match, Onuachu said: “the team really pushed him to the national team and now he is so happy.”

In his words: “The team really pushed me to the national team and now I’m so happy for the team and for the country.”

“The goal is a lot of confidence for the striker to score and now I’m very happy.”

“We will go for AFCON’s and take the goals,” he added.

Onuachu scored in added time with a header after a goal-mouth scramble to give Nigeria all three points.

The victory made Nigeria to become the first country to defeat the Benin’s senior side at home on their undulating pitch in Port Novo stadium in as much as eight years of international football there.
