Speculations about the imminent move of Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has now hit the rooftop, following the visitation of three APC governors to Zamfara, Monday.

Matawalle, who won his election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hosted Governor Mai-Mala Buni of Yobe State; Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, and Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, all of APC, during the commissioning of some buildings in the state.

Matawalle had built 18 houses, which according to him, will serve as accomodation for the state governors and other government officials. The 18 houses were named after the 18 northern states.

Speaking at the commissioning of the government house named after Yobe State, Buni who is also the National Chairman of the Extraordinary Convention Committee of the APC, lauded Matawalle for his efforts in modernizing the state.

He described Matawalle as a versatile political leader, who has transformed the state with various infrastructural projects and developmental projects within a short time as the Governor.

Buni also used the opportunity to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent fire disaster which destroyed part of Tudun Wada Gusau market.

In his words, “I am particularly impressed by what my brother, Matawalle is doing here in Zamfara in spite of dwindling resources coupled with the security situation faced by the state. This is the kind of development we need which also translates into the provision of dividends of democracy.”

Speaking, Matawalle stated the construction of the houses was necessary to make provision of accommodation to government officials and eminent personalities on official engagements in the state.

He also stated that the new houses would reduce the expenses being incurred by the government in accommodating visitors of the state in hotels and rented houses.

Gov. Matawalle, also assured the people of Zamfara State that his administration is committed to the development of the state and the protection of lives and properties.

Matawalle has been linked to joining the ruling APC over the past few months.

The New Diplomat had reported there have been speculations that the Governor might join the APC to boost his chances of getting re-elected in 2023.

Recall that Matawalle became the Governor through a Supreme Court ruling. He was defeated by Muktar Idris, the APC candidate in the March 2019 gubernatorial election, however the Supreme Court nullified the candidacy of Idris due to the APC’s primary election in the state that led to series of legal tussles and conundrums.
