The tragic aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake in Myanmar has led to a rise in the death toll, reportedly reaching 1,644 lives lost.
Also, more than 3,400 individuals also reportedly sustained injuries.
This was contained in a statement issued by the ruling junta in Myanmar.
The statement also revealed that at least 139 people are still missing after Friday’s shallow 7.7-magnitude quake.
It would be recalled that Myanmar experienced another earthquake on Friday, just a day after powerful tremors left over 1,000 dead and many more injured.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the latest quake measured 5.1 in magnitude which struck near Naypyidaw at around 2:50 pm local time. It occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. The extent of the damage or casualties from this new tremor is still unknown.
According to reports, the disaster has caused widespread devastation, flattening buildings, buckling roads, and shattering critical infrastructure across central and northwestern Myanmar.
