By Johnson Babalola @jbdlaw Hindsight, they say, is life’s most generous teacher—but it sends its lessons late. Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium, a result which will surely diminish the title hopes of the West London side.

Kevin De Bruyne’s brilliant finish from the edge of the area proved enough to ensure his team bag all three points in the heavyweight encounter.

City were much the better team as they dominated the game from the start of the game.

With the win Manchester City are now 13 points clear of second-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table and 14 points clear of Liverpool, who have two games in hand.

Also, following the Saturday’s win Manchester City have won each of their last 12 Premier League games.

Addressing a press conference at the end of the game, Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the performance of the whole team.

In his words, “Absolutely [City deserved to win]. The way we played, everything we have done, we cannot forget against which team we played. European champions, you realise how incredible they are. You try to find the spaces but there are not. They defend well, they wait for the transition to punish us. We won from one transition. How good they defend we create enough chances to win, especially the intention to win from minute one. After 1-0 they make a step up, we lose some transitions, with Mount, Werner, Hudon-Odoi, Lukaku. We were brilliant.”
